I wasn't sure if this post would be more appropriate on our other blog site or not, but I went with this one. First we go all the way back to Magna Elementary school. I remember all the years looking forward to being a sixth grader because that meant you got to bring the shaving cream and smear the younger grades. Before 6th grade it was a mission to avoid being smeared. I am not sure why Grades K-5 never got brave or smart and just brought shaving cream with them the last day of school to fight back with, but we didn't.
Remember Lagoon Day?
Such privileges we had then huh? I can't believe I ever rode that white roller coaster. I can't believe it is still there. I loved the Musical Express and trying to get the girls I had crushes on to ride with me because it forced you to the outside so you could sneakily be close to that 6th grade hottie! Or better yet we tried so hard to meet the girls that were there from other schools to do the same thing. Do they still go to Lagoon the last week of school? I know they no longer get to go Ice Skating because the Cyprus Ice Rink is long gone.
Junior High School Summers are more of a blur to me. I honestly can't remember what we looked forward to. I know I played little league baseball all summer, and did a lot with Scout Camp. When I was 14 I went to New York City for the Scout Jamboree... that was cool. I honestly can't remember the big anticipated things. The Magna 4th of July at the park was always something.
Remember how anxious we were to get a driver's license? We were so anxious to reach that milestone and the people that turned 16 earlier than the rest of us were instant celebrities. I still owe Jazey Drecksel hundreds of dollars in gas money for picking me up for school all through 11th and 12th grade. He had his own car. Double celebrity. It's funny to me that I could care less when the next time is that I get to drive now. Truth be told, I am happy sitting in the passenger seat. (Doesn't SheDaisy have a song about that?)
In all reality, High School always ended unofficially, for me anyway, around the first of May.
That is about the time we would start heading down to Magna Park to play "sand volleyball" in the gravel filled sand volleyball courts. Sluffing was the best. I remember my first time sluffing. I can't remember who all was involved, but it was towards the end of 9th grade. We decided to skip school to go to a Movie at the good old and long gone Midvalley Cinemas. We were excited to see a surfing movie but forgot what it was called. We got there and bought tickets to Beaches. That experience almost ruined my love and anxiousness for sluffing for the rest of my life! Jazey and I made up for it by going to see Terminator 2 at the first Utah showing...also during school hours. If you are reading this and were part of the Beaches trip, and dare to admit it, please leave me a comment!
College Summers were less and less fun. Usually summer break meant working your butt off for at least 40 hours, usually more, each week to get enough money to go back to school in the fall. My very last summer of college I decided to take classes to get done, and I wish I would have done that sooner. Summer Semester was such a cake walk. Abbreviated curriculum, teachers that wanted to be out water skiing just as bad as the students, and hot summer weather makes everyone lazy.
Now we are grown up and for most of us there is no such thing as summer break. Our jobs go on, our responsibilities add up, and our lawn still needs to be mowed. I look forward to baseball games, warm weather and time with family. All good things.
I remember always wondering why we didn't get a summer vacation in church?
So that's my post. Now, if you have read this, you have a "summer" project. You have to leave a comment about a fond memory from your life. Something we can all relate to perhaps. If you dare, something about us or something we did together, or anything you want really. This may be fun.

I spent a week of every summer of my life in Panguitch, UT, so I'll spare you those details.
I remember looking forward to summer days while my parents were at work.
Too funny. I'm surprised you never mentioned our nights out on the trampoline getting Matt all worked up. That doesn't sound like we were very nice kids.
I also remember making crazy home videos ... I think you and Brad and Matt got drunk on green punch and then tried to drive Matt's banana creamy thru the front doors of the Smith's in SL.
I remember the summer you all left for your missions. Your mom made you spend your last days painting the basement. We were bitter.
We also swam at your aunts house a few times.. that was always interesting.
And one college summer (we were probably sluffing then, too) we went camping. Sweet Smedley made us all clean up the beer cans that we found and then we took pictures of our "memories in the making."
Good times.
p.s. Jer was pretty excited about you mentioning your summer in NY. He still talks about that and can't wait to send Josh.
I live for Summer break, one of the perks for being a mom.
Shelling peas.
Slurpees.
Riding bikes till pitch black.
Allergies.
Gidget.
Girls Camp.
Band...I was a nerd.
Sleeping outside.
Sounds of the Races.
I love summer.
I remember 8:00 am History and Origins of the English Language and going over to get you and telling you to get up and you saying you were going to fart on me if I didn't quit jumping on your bed.
And don't you all feel better for leaving the forest cleaner than we found it? :) Somehow I've still got that 'clean it up' obsession everywhere I go.
I remember the Summer you left on your missions. Lots of farewells, then you left, we wrote letters. Fun times.
Summer makes me think of sleepin out on the trampoline, camping, roasting marshallows up Logan canyon, summer jobs...hoarding away money to pay for college:
Checker at Grocery Outlet
Telemarketing
KB Toys
Mall
Life was simple then! But I gotta say... I enjoy the doting on flowerbeds, slip n slide afternoons, family campouts, sitting on the patio at night listening to the crickets.
The Magna 4th of July parade...now that we are grown up, the entertainment does not get better than that!! Can't wait for this year!
