Not Current Events, Just Filling In Some Blanks

I have been letting the kids use my laptop to click through every picture I have ever downloaded to it, and while doing so, they informed me that some of them should have been shared on our blog. The actual words they used were these: "Dad, how come that picture isn't on that thing where you put some of our pictures with all the words?" To acquiesce to their request, here comes another post. The kids, like all other kids I am sure, love playing dress up. They are also obsessed with Pirates. I am sure most kids are also currently obsessed with Pirates, but it doesn't help much to have a father that is fond of them too. Not just because I graduated from Cyprus High School, home of Scholars and Champions, not just because it is one of our favorite rides at Disneyland, not just because of the ever cool Pirates of the Caribbean Movies, but also because all morals and beliefs aside, it would have been a pretty cool gig in the 1500's.

As mentioned, we went to Disneyland a few weeks ago. The picture coming up is one I took during the absolutely awesome fireworks show. Have I sufficiently covered my love of fireworks on this blog? Hands down, the best fireworks show ever, even better than my all time favorite Jackson's Hole fireworks display. (yes I call it Jackson's Hole on purpose) We did go to Lagoon this year as well. I hadn't been since 1993. Other than a few rides it hasn't changed much. I love adventure as much as the next guy, but riding that white roller coaster is more a death wish than an adventure. I wouldn't do it.

The next photo here was not requested by the kids, but I couldn't resist adding it because it is a page straight out of fire station hi-jinks that I performed at home to my own kid. Eli fell asleep so I stuck a stuffed animal on his face and took a picture. Just to let co-workers know that they shouldn't feel special or picked on by any means whenever they fall victim to one of the pranks. For those outside of the fire service, sometimes we have a little too much spare time and use it to conjure up ways to make April Fools Day last all year long.

By way of what's going on in our lives, I was released from Scouts this past Sunday. I wasn't ready for this one. I still feel the people in charge of inspiration for our ward missed the mark here. I had been in for almost 6 years, and I could have done 6 more, but they didn't ask me. Rebecca serves in Young Women's. We aren't really doing much else right now. Tierra is in kindergarten and loves it. Eli is in Pre-school and is anxious for Kindergarten next year. Haylee is not in school, but has reached the ripe old age of 7 months. She is the easiest baby. (Rebecca confirms this, by the way.) She is so happy all the time and very easy. I think if kids number 1 and 2 were like this, we would have signed up to have 8. Then we could have rivaled Jon and Kate.

Our backyard is practically tree-less after a losing battle with some type of bug eating our trees. The last windstorm pushed them around so much that I had to have a friend come over and saw them down for me. Luckily he didn't trim our house at the same time, and even missed dropping trees on our deck and barbecue. I probably would have a different story if I had done this on my own. I am sad that practically all of our shade trees are gone and our neighbors now have a clear view right into our bedroom window. I either have to be more careful or not care about the fact that they can see more of us now. Anyway...

This next photo is a picture from our yearly trip to Fort Bridger for the Mountain-man Rendezvous. We bought the kids Davy Crocket (coon skin) hats and toy guns after walking around all day amongst the adults that were dressed up in either loin cloths and head dresses, or buckskin outfits head to toe. I poke fun, but this event is really quite fun. You'll just never see me going all out in the regalia of the period it celebrates. I would be more likely to dress up like Princess Leia for the next Star Wars movie release party. (No, that's not happening either.) Tierra also loves the cow skulls, but she called them dinosaur heads all day long.

So Summer is gone. I am over the fact that it went by so fast and it seems like we did very little. Grand plans and ideas always get pushed back a week until you reach the breaking point of no-more-summer left, so you add it to the list of things to do next summer. Its a viscous cycle.

I don't think Rebecca would look good in the female mullet! Leave that to those crazies with the babies. Being a pirate would be fun, the real kind. Tierra makes a pretty pirate but she looks more like a good kind of pirate. That's my two cents worth.

You need to get the tkids the books, "The Day I became a Pirate" and "Pirates Don't Change Diapers." There great for little pirates in the house!

I think child #3 is the "perfect child" for most families. That way you consider having more. Don't give in. My #3 was the perfect child - straight from heaven - until it came time to potty train. I'm not giving in. No more "perfect" little things for this family.
