To Our 14 Readers:

Rebecca is pregnant. There, I said it, its out there, enjoy! We have a rough due date of early March. So with this tidbit of information, we need everyone's help (all 14 of you!) The current vehicle we have is going to be too small. We are curious what all of you, that have three car seats or more to tote around, are driving. Good or bad, give us the lowdown. There are however, some conditions. I absolutely refuse to drive a minivan. No offense to those that drive them, I am sure they are great vehicles, I just can't do it. Something in my genes I think. Any other cars, trucks, motorcycles, scooters-okay you are right, no scooters!- apply here. We will have three kids in car seats and need something that will work for us. Granted, we have some ideas, but really want to hear from you guys. What else can I update you on about Rebecca? Oh yes, another thing relating to being pregnant, we will not have any pregnancy tickers or fetal photos placed on the blog, again, no offense to those that do it, but don't expect it from us, okay? It just kind of creeps me out.

Rebecca finished the new Mormon Vampire book in about 1.75 days. It is sometimes annoying how she can't put any book down for 5 minutes. Remember that she is on a quest to read 52 books in 52 weeks, well, I am guessing she will have double that done-but we will see. Her garden is growing awesome. We have enjoyed a couple of grape tomatoes from it, as well as a cucumber. No pictures this time. I forgot to take some current ones. Instead, here is a picture of her at a recent Bees baseball game with some friends of ours, the Robinson's, and the Jensen's are back behind Rebecca who is square in the middle. (The Picture is up higher!)

Speaking of baseball, I am so excited because our kids finally made it through an entire game and actually had a good time. I am a huge baseball fan, to those that can't guess that on their own. Another cool thing about this that makes Daddy proud, is that one of the bedtime songs my children love to sing now before going to bed is now "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." One of the two songs you will hear me sing in public. (The other being the National Anthem.)

Ok, the kids: Tierra first I guess. Did I already mention she took swimming lessons this summer? If not, she did. She had a blast. She took level one and passed easily and took level two and didn't pass. This is a good thing because they are actually very strict with their requirements. Granted it is not Navy Seal Training, but at least I know she will get something out of the time and money it takes to get her there. I am not exactly sure what she lacked in level two, but we will get her back in sometime. She is excited to start preschool again as well. She misses the kindergarten deadline by two weeks. She turns 5 in mid September. Last night she did sit ups with me, she did about 15 really good sit ups. It was so funny. She was all tight faced, and grunting. The picture is another one of Tierra's poses. All I do is get the camera out and Tierra goes into action.

Eli turned 3 a few weeks back, but I think I already said that. He has really taken to watching movies. He loves watching Baby Einstein movies. He liked Pirates of the Carribean. He watches Disney's Aristocats at least once a day. He likes a lot of the different Disney ones we have as well. He is also quite the copycat. He says everything Tierra does. Right after Tierra asks a question and gets the answer, Eli is right there asking the same question. He sometimes makes me feel like I am living a scene out of Groundhogs Day (All time classic and favorite movie, if you have not seen it, rent it now!) He does the same thing every morning when I get ready for work. Asks the same question everyday, like what I am doing when I put deodorant on? Why do you do that? (comb hair), holds my towel til I get out of the shower, etc. I admit, if it were happening to someone else, I would laugh my butt off. The pictures are of him being cool and him riding the slip and slide at Great Grandma's House.

As for me...busy time at work right now. I have a lot of huge projects going on. Our department participates in every city event or celebration, and as far as the West Battalion goes, it is my job to coordinate, facilitate, organize and schedule. It can become quite a pain in the butt because all of our staffing is done by guys on their off days, and sometimes people just don't want to work their day off, even though they get paid overtime for it. Anyway, that's work for now. I do get some fun things out of it, like last Saturday when we played the Salt Lake County Sheriffs Office in a "friendly" softball game. This was the second annual game. We won last year, so naturally I talked a lot of crap to the guys I know this year. Well, they beat us. Needless to say I have had to eat a lot of crow this week. Even tonight at one of the City Council meetings (I have to attend as part of my job) I got a few jabs. They only beat us 18-17. The included picture is of me about to field a grounder which I am sure led to a cop getting out! If you are interested in seeing all the pictures, go here: http://www.pbase.com/unifiedfire/cops_v_firefighters_08 The pictures are taken by a Captain for our fire department that does it as a hobby. If you need a password to view the pics, email me and I will give it to you, but I think he has removed the password requirement.

Other than that, things are normal. We are doing good. Rebecca is a little sick, but is overall doing better on this pregnancy than the first two. We just got a new Bishop last week, so I have a gut feeling that in the next few weeks, maybe months, both of our callings will change. I have wondered if it is possible to tell them no when they call you in to get released? I want to stay in Scouts a little longer because the boys I have worked with the last 4 years are all very near to getting their Eagle. I want to see that through.

Well, drop us a line and let us know how things are in your neck of the world.

Congrats on baby #3! You're starting over with the whole, "our kids finally made it through an entire game and actually had a good time"...

This is the part where I would sing praises to our Dodge Caravan (which I swore I'd NEVER, EVER, EVER, NO WAY ON PLANET EARTH drive/own), but you've made your position clear. Nope. I won't write about how much I adore the power doors each time my hands are holding two babies, a purse, a diaper bag, and sometimes my own sanity on a platter. I won't tell you how much I love it when we stow the seats under the floor to turn our van into a truck to haul furniture and lumber. I will spare you the details of how ROOMY it is. Waaay roomier than any SUV I have ever been in. I will not comment on how absolutely life changing it has been as a parent of three kids to go from a compact car to this roomy, lovely second home on wheels. I will not advise you to tint the windows like us, and no one will know it's you driving a (gasp) MINIVAN.

Your'e such a snob, Chadly.

Congrats on the baby. I hope Rebecca is doing better with this pregnancy. I wonder if this baby will actually be a mix of the two of you, with Tierra being a clone of Rebecca and Eli, well we still wonder who his real daddy is!!! Now for the car, I am going on the other side of Julia. I have a big fat suburban. We bought it when we only had two kids because I didn't want to do that inbetween stage of a van (remember we have a but load of kids)It's an old suburban and worn our, remember the kids, but I love that vehicle. It has crappy gas mileage and the tires are expensive to replace, but I love it. It's more of a love hate relationship. My sister in law, I guess my brother just got a Sequoia. That's a pretty car. The force will be with you when you make the purchase!!love ya

I will save my congrats until the baby makes its way into this cold world. I hate being pregnant and I have been in this situation a year and 2 months now minus 2 1/2 in between. It is a miserable state of being and it doesnt help that I am in the 3rd trimester of aches and pains and the damn 3 hour glucose test I took yesterday. It is the only way to get them here so I do it. I hope others enjoy it a tad bit more than me. I do send wishes of good health and non-sick to her though.
I am with Angie on the car (sorry Julia). I am a mini van refuser too although I dont hate them just too car-like for me..........screw the planet and ozone!!!! :) that is a joke!!
I dont drive my yukon XL (same as suburban) much because I spend a lot of time in my yard but I love it just the same and plan to get a new one sometime in the near future. It would be fabby if they figured out how to stow the seats like a mini van though....except I really dont want that thing to have to be any bigger lest I feel like Im driving an Econoline.
Jamie just got a durango that seemed pretty roomy.....my sister has a ford expedition and it is nice too. So all in all I say skip the 4-runner, explorer, trailblazer size or you may as well have the mini van.
the new tahoes are beautiful but there is no storage room in the back. Also make sure the seats fold to flat-----otherwise you cant sleep back there or lay long things flat.
Okay for fear of being really car nerdy I will stop.

We drove a silver Honda Civic, but it started having all sorts of problems, and although we only have two kids, we wanted more space to haul stuff around when we travel. We bought an Acura MDX w/ all the bells and whistles (cause my husband refuses to be seen in a minivan as well). I love the fold-down back seats and the space inside, I also love how quiet and "car-like" it is to drive.

Gas mileage makes me sick - it's about 21 hw and 19 city. I miss my 36 mpg Honda now that gas prices are insane.

I agree with Julia that the only tradeoff is having that big sliding door to open and throw all the kids in w/o having to crawl over the middle seat to get to the back. That can be bothersome w/ three, I would imagine...at least I've heard that from others who do carpools and such.

Congratulations on the pregnancy! Your kids are cuties. Good luck with the ball game and the car buying. I'd definitely wait until closer to the due date to purchase, though. You never know what other options will be out there. I actually saw a Prius SUV the other day. What model was it??

We had the same dilema about ooohhh seven years ago:) too many kids, not enough room. We thought about squishing 3 car seats in the back seat of our Impala (well Derek thought about it). But we went against the thought when you couldn't close both doors at the same time! We had a Trail Blazer for a while, I loved it. There was accually room in the back for storage (not as much as a car) but some room. The kids loved to be up high enough to see out the windows (which tint just the same as a minivan!!). We have had the Escalade for about 3 years now and its fabulous, except the gas milage, I get a crappy 13 miles per gallon on the HIGHWAY! Ouch. So if you are too snobby for a minivan then you don't have much choice but to go with an SUV. And once you go SUV you'll never go back:) Good luck with it.

I cant believe you LOST your game!! Didn't they kinda cheat though? Drafting someone? If not it sounds better that way.

Your kids are adorable so I am glad to hear that you guys are adding to the clan. I hope Edward comforted Rebecca through at least the 1.75 days she was...uuhhhmmmm...reading. But I hope she gets better soon, and you remember to baby her through this time. It truely is the worst feeling in the world.

Anyway...cute blog.

Okay, so I am getting you a litte closer to your 14, but still only #6. Where are all the bloggers? They are slacking! Anyway, congrats to you both. Now you can join those of us that have 3 kids and debate everyday over whether or not we are "done." Okay, so I debate. Others (not to name any names) say we are completely 100% done. As for the car.. I am no help. We have a Dodge Caravan. It has a "for sale" sign in it as of today. I'm done with the minivan. Said I would never do it and I did. While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the new ones do, it does have the built in car seats. I would have to say it was worth the investment just for that. However, when you have 3 kids and a 7 or 8 passenger car, they fight every time you go somewhere. First they fight over the back seat. Then, after that wears off, they fight over the "front" seat (which is the middle bench). So, I'm done. It is up for sale and I will give you a deal! In fact, I will include the kids if you want! Okay, so summer has been long and I really need school to start. Lemme know what you get so that I can copy.

Simmons you SOB...

There is nothing wrong with a Mini! Ask Locke... he drove mine while I confiscated his truck last week... You pansy ARSE!

Besides if I am buying the truck... you have yo buy the van.

Time to get into the real world of the "Mormon Assault Vehicle" or MAUV for short....

Welcome to the outnumbered club. Good luck with that and traveling, oh and your beloved baseball games. I won't even talk about sacrament meetings. As for the car, I loved my Pacifica. It's not a minivan, and not an SUV with the extra taxes and insurance. But Nathan gave that car away and got a Durango. A little "happy birthday to me from me" thing. I have to admit. I really like it. Drives like a car, but towes a boat. Not overly horendous on the gas milage either. I only fill up about every week and a half. Whatever car you end up with, whatever the cost, get the dvd player. I promise it's a little piece of heavan.

Congratulations! I'm so excited for you! On the car, Honda Odyssey is THEE ONLY way to go with 3 kids. I'm not kidding. I swore I'd never drive one, too. But listen, sun roof, leather seats, automatic slide doors, bum warmers, XM radio, 6 disk CD changer, front/rear climate control, run flat tires, automatic hatch, lazy susan in floor storage... it's not just a mini van. It is makin'-life-easy with 3 kids. They have thought of EVERYTHING a mom (or dad) needs. I have been converted. All it took me was one ride in the thing and my anti mini van feelings melted away. It is my dream car.

About staying with us, don't worry about it. It's great. It was my husband's big idea, we don't mind at all, and in fact, it would be fun. So, get busy, get your tickets and make it happen.

Stephanie said...

p.s. get comfortable with your manhood and go look at the Odyssey. Take your wife, and count the ways that it will improve her life. I look forward to seeing you eat your words! :)

First of all CONGRATS to you and your wife. I left a comment several days ago and must not have saved it, so here we go again. First off, I agree with whomever said to wait on buying the car because (and this is just a hypothetical here) but you don't want to go buy yourself a nice, new, fancy vehicle only to find out 2 months later that you're expecting more than one child and all of a sudden your brand new vehicle does no suit your needs. Heaven forbid this happen to you, but I'm just saying - - you NEVER know. You never, never know. Okay, now for my two cents about the car. We have a Trailblazer and I love it. It fits our family of 5 perfectly, it has lots of room, and it's not as bad at the gas pump as the bigger SUVs. That said, my kids are now at that age where we always have friends, cousins, etc and we need more room. I would definitely go bigger. I know they make Trailblazers w/ the third row seat option. Also I too am one of those who said I would NEVER, EVER buy a van of any type but the more time goes by, the more I consider it. The Odyssey and Sequoia are two of my faves right now. You can also do the crossover. I didn't like them at first, but I'm liking them more and more. The GMC Acadia looks a litte more "tough" than some of the others and I really like it, but have never been in one so that is only an opinion on exterior. Good luck and let us all know what you decide. Also, I hope you can stay in Scout's too. Working w/ YM and YW is the best!! I did YW for 5 or 6 years and loved it. I still keep hoping they call me back in. Plus, it sounds like you've worked so hard w/ them. The new Bishop will be so overloaded w/ his new calling, I'm sure he'll leave you alone for a while.

The Sumsions said...

P.S. - I meant Toyota Sienna on the van. But the Sequoia is very, very nice - an SUV not a van.

You did it, you said it, does it feel better now? Way to go. It is out. That is great! Does she usually get very sick? You mentioned she isn't as bad this time. Eli cracks me up, maybe I will go get Groundhog Day and watch it now. Get a few extra laughs out of it. Too bad you couldn't have played UT County Sheriff's Dept. That would have been fun to play against Dave. Maybe then you would have won...

Thanks for the link to your blog! I love that you are the one who writes it, and you do a great job as well! It makes me want to go and write a new post on mine! Your family is adorable and congrats on number 3! I sold my Jeep that I LOVED right after number 3 and bought a minivan as well. It's the same as Julia's and I would never go back! There is nothing better than automatic doors! I also live in the middle of nowhere, so even a grocery store trip is about 20 minutes. Having the kids more than arms-reach apart and a dvd player has saved me! ;) Good luch on baby and car buying!

Congrats on baby #3! Since it looks like I am the only surviving member of the 2-kids-or-less-kids-club I will not give you any advice on what to drive. Good luck with that!
